The Trust organised a weekend with the town of Masnieres in early June 2022, with representatives from States of Guernsey, St Peter Port Parish Twinning Team, Blanchelande College and the RGLI Charitable Trust. Following on from the successful RGLI Memorial Ride the previous month, arrangements are already well advanced for coming student exchanges between Masnieres Jacques Prevet College and Blanchelande College in Guernsey. Masnieres is the local town in the region centralising several schools and the Trust had identified an early opportunity to create lasting cultural links between the two communities with potential student exchanges, embedding the work already down between the historic memorials and remembrance activities.
This was added to with representatives from St Peter Port Parish meeting their opposite numbers, together with representation form the States of Guernsey's Foreign Affairs Department. Despite a lot minute hitch in the loss if the Gatwick connection through IT problems in early June the team are meeting virtually, as a plan B, with a physical on site visit later this year.
'Whilst it's a short-term frustration to delay meeting after such a long period apart,' said Deputy Chris Blin, representing Foreign Relations
'There are other methods in place to breach that gap and at the same time get us to Masnieres later this year. My hat goes off to Chris Oliver & his team for exhaustively driving these initiatives forwards'
'These exciting initiatives are really positives steps between our communities and the involvement of young people is a key aspect to keep a real focus on our shared history and common values'. concluded Deputy Blin.
