About the Event
The first memorial to the RGLI on foriegn soil was unvieled on the 100th anniversay of the Battle of Les Rues Vertes on the spot where A Company stood to make their defence over three days, against overwhleming odds. Guernsey was represented at the event by His Excellency the Lt Govenor of Guernsey, The Bailiff of Guernsey, the RGLI Trust, Guernsey Army Cadet Force, Royal British Legion and private family members of the men who served. France was represented by the Sous-Prefet of Cambrai, Mayor of Masnieres, Deputies of the Republic of France, Veterans Association, French Army and the band and people of Masnieres. The joint service was conducted by the Dean of Guernsey and Catholic Church, Masnieres. The event was followed by a Vin D'Honeur hosted by the Commune.
