Flags Approved for Memorial

RGLI Memorial @ St Peter Port Sunken Garden

Guernsey's Museum Service has assisted the RGLI in obtaining permission for twin flagpoles to be erected at the RGLI Memorial in St Peter Port's Sunken (St Paul's) Garden.

This will match the sister memorial to the RGLI Memorial at Rue Verte in Masnieres where the Regiment held the line between 30 November and 2 December 1917.

"We have had the aspiration of replicating the memorial site in France with ours here in St Peter Port for quite some time" said Colin Dodd, Director of the RGLI's French Registered Association Charity.

"It is a particularly good time, now that we have been able to purchase the dilapidated 16 Rue Verte and raise funds to refurbish this for our collective cultural history. We are thankful to the Guernsey Musuem Service, collegues at St Peter Port Douzaine who are twinned with Masnieres, for their assistance in helping achieve this. But mostly to those islanders who worked tirelessly and donated the funds to make this happen "

The RGLI hopes to have the flagpoles installed by October in time for the annual remembrance service that happens at the same time in Masnieres and St Peter Port on the Sunday nearest the 30th Novemebr each year.
